College Bound Dorchester, formerly known as Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, has been serving the community of Dorchester since 1965. Although the organization’s name has changed its commitment to supporting positive change in Dorchester remains resolute.

In the neighborhoods of Dorchester less than one quarter of the adult population has a college degree. College Bound Dorchester works to ensure that all students view success in college as not just a possibility in their lives but as a baseline expectation.

From the CEO:

The small number of young people who disproportionally affect urban classrooms and neighborhoods have been let down by the adults around them. These young people put on a veneer of disruption and become "problems." In classrooms they sit in the back and distract students and teachers and in neighborhoods they sit on stoops and create crews that disrupt the quiet of the streets. These young people are powerful and yet they are trapped in this veneer that breeds a culture of chaos and confusion. These few are the students we serve and the students we love. To those of us in this work, they are not problems or troublemakers, gangbangers or punks. They are teachers, youth workers, bankers and nurses, and effectively engaging those who wear this veneer of disruption represents the greatest opportunity in America today.

This fall, College Bound Dorchester was proud to launch its College Connections program to increase the number of students we help achieve educational success. Over the next five years, College Bound will implement a new plan to increase the number of students it serves by 50 percent and quadruple the number of students matriculating into college.
